CTS operate 24 hour working shifts with contractors arriving on site at various times of the day and night. This meant that site managers’ time was taken up delivering staff inductions every time a contractor arrived. In addition, due to a lack of space, some sites would not have room for an office making it impossible to store copies of paper inductions.
Another major factor that came into effect, with the escalation of the Covid-19 pandemic, was that socially distanced inductions were essential for the wellbeing and safety of the workforce.
By eliminating face-to-face, manual induction presentations every time contractors, staff or visitors arrived on site, would help CTS to:
- Mitigate the risk of spreading coronavirus
- Reduce the time that site managers spent doing manual inductions
- Eliminate the need for storage of paper copies that were not easy to locate at sites without office space
Solution
Due to steady growth, CTS were looking at ways to upgrade their induction process and identified that by moving to a cloud-based online system, quality control and consistency could be improved.
Following a referral from another contractor, CTS contacted GetOnSite for a demonstration of the fully contactless induction system. After the demo, the current induction process was sent to the operations team at GetOnSite who transferred it onto the web-based platform to be rolled out across multiple sites.
“The team at GetOnSite have been brilliant, responding to texts or emails to any last-minute addition of sites in order to accommodate a quick turnaround, enabling us to meet deadlines.”
James Middleton, Health & Safety Manager
Benefits
The GetOnSite online induction system has helped CTS to be compliant with industry health and safety guidance and save time and money by:
- Reducing the risk of the spread of coronavirus
- Providing access to contractor logs 24/7 from any device
- Saving approx. 20 minutes per person or group of contractors inducted
- Eliminating the need to store paper inductions on site
“Having everything online, saved in the cloud, is much more efficient. Contractor logs can be accessed easily, 24/7. Our site managers bought into the new system straight away and contractors like it because they are not losing time on site.”
Results
Staff can be pre-inducted prior to arrival on site, saving valuable time. In addition, site managers can review any issues before contractors arrive, such as checking understanding of the induction and confirming that they have the relevant training and CSCS card.
Site manager feedback has been excellent due to the time it saves by removing a step at site level, and contractors like the system because it makes the process quicker for them and there is less risk of being exposed to coronavirus.
